China's big five
domestic automakers continued to dominate the nation's auto market
in 2004, taking 68.82 pct of total vehicle sales, according to
the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).
China's five main automakers are First Automotive
Works (FAW) Group Corp, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp (SAIC),
Chang'an Automotive Group, Beijing Automotive Industry Holding
Co and Dongfeng Motor Corp, CAAM said.
FAW sold 1.01 mln units, Shanghai Automotive sold
848,500 units, Changan 579,500 units, Beijing Automotive 531,000
units and Dongfeng 523,300 units in 2004.
Those totals were up 12.35 pct, 8.50 pct, 22.75 pct,
57.73 pct and 6.78 pct year-on-year respectively.Dongfeng slipped
behind Changan and Beijing Automotive in 2004 compared to its
third place ranking in 2003.
China's total vehicle sales increased 15.50
pct to 5.07 mln units last year.
