A senior official says China's economy will maintain a nine percent growth rate in 2005.

Cheng Siwei, Vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, says with further macro-economic control, including improved investment efficiency, China will avoid an overheated economy.

Officials with the National Statistics Bureau say China's economy will grow strongly in 2005 thanks to moderate improvement in the global economy and rising demand for exports and consumption.
