China-Portuguese Ties Enhanced

Chinese President Hu Jintao has held talks with his visiting Portuguese counterpart Jorge Sampaio in Beijing to exchange views on bilateral ties and other regional and international issues of common concern.

President Sampaio arrived in Beijing Tuesday to kick off his seven-day state visit to China.

Before his visit, Jorge Sampaio told reporters that the main purpose of his trip is to infuse new vigor into bilateral economic ties and expand cooperation in trade, investment and tourism.

He added that China and Portugal will sign new accords on economic cooperation and discuss issues emerging in future partnerships in science, technology and culture.
